Want to Change the World? React with Love
There once lived a nomadic tribe in the remotest areas of Africa.
If a tribe member was caught stealing or inflicting harm on others (or their property), the tribe formed a circle around the perp.
Then, starting with the chief, each person shared positive things about the “wrong-doer.”
Sometimes, they shared something positive about the person’s character, skills or talents.
Other times they reminded the person of the positive and caring behaviour they had exhibited in the past.
How do you think the wrong-doer responded?
How would you would respond?
The reason people do “bad” things is because they’re either (1) ignorant of what their actions truly mean and/or (2) they’re hurting badly on the inside (and often aren’t consciously aware of it).
Reacting with anger or hatred only adds fuel to the fire.
Reacting with love and compassion is the only way forward.
Until next time.
